LA Corp: the Living & Affected Corporation

Robert came into our offices after 5 years of living homeless
on the streets of Little Rock, just looking for something to eat.
He has had many obstacles to face including access to health
screening. Fortunately we were there for him because while at our
office he discovered that at 32, he was HIV positive. "I don't
know what I would have done without this group. They've become
my family, when it seemed that I had no one," said Robert. Since
then, Robert has been moved into a treatment plan as well as
other health education provided by our agency.

When our client Judy came to our offices she was seeking the free testing expertise we offer. She said, "I didn't have insurance, but was concerned that I needed to be aware of my status, so I came to Living Affected. They made me feel safe and secure while getting my results."

The Living & Affected Corporation (LACorp) is a charitable, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization that began in the 1990s to provide HIV prevention, testing and counseling, and other supportive services for low-income and high risk communities.

Due to the impact of HIV/AIDS, the organization retooled in 2008 to address the current pandemic. The organization is committed to promoting empowerment and inclusion while decreasing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

Through education and advocacy focused on capacity building, LACorp pursues social justice and equality in sexual and reproductive health literacy and rights among its communities.

During the past year, the organization served over 1000 people through its varied services. The organization has a small committed experienced staff led by a Chief Executive Officer, 2 State Executive Directors (Arkansas & Oklahoma), and a Policy & Mobilization Director.

The organization is governed by local board of directors consisting of five community members.

Policy Statement – The Living Affected Corporation (LACorp) is committed to ensuring a comprehensive system of HIV care in Arkansas. We support holistic prevention and treatment programs that are comprehensive, adequately funded and accessible to marginalized communities. We believe an emphasis on testing where treatment services are not available to all creates an unacceptable paradox.
